Alma Gačanin

Alma Gačanin (Sarajevo, 23 November 1988 at 5:05 a.m.) lives and works as an artist, regardless of the work she is doing at any given moment. Her work is based on researching the specifics of labour and the precariousness of certain professions for which she attended professional trainings. She obtained her master’s degree in fine arts education at the Teaching Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. She engages in drawing, photography, video, and performance. She is particularly interested in the position of women in capitalism, biopolitics, value theory and social reproduction. She won the best artist in Bosnia and Herzegovina award – ZVONO 2022 and was a finalist of the same award in 2016. She represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean in Milan in 2015. She is a feminist in her private life and her roles as artist-worker. Recently, she worked as a flight attendant in Saudi Arabia, touching directly on the problems of precariat and repressive patriarchy, questioning the good life through something we consider a dream job. She is currently working in a client facing role for a foreign company. She writes poetry, and has published poems in magazines, anthologies and web portals in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
