Part One of the Exhibition

The first chapter of Algorithm of Care brings together works by Alma Gačanin, Ivana Smiljanić, Jana Jovašević, Marija Mitrović, Viktorija Zdravković, Sara Mladenović, and Sofia Golitsyna. Through installations, objects, text-based works, drawing, and multimedia practices, the artists explore experiences that often remain outside the visible sphere of public discourse, addressing themes of violence, vulnerability, memory, resistance, and mutual support.

Drawing on personal narratives and everyday experiences, the works establish connections between the individual and the collective, revealing the ways in which social structures shape people’s lives. The exhibition focuses on emotional labor, familial and intimate relationships, as well as the mechanisms through which certain experiences become visible, acknowledged, or remain marginalized.

Through diverse artistic approaches, the exhibition considers care not only as an intimate relation between individuals, but also as a form of social engagement and collective responsibility. The works presented in this chapter invite viewers to reflect on how everyday experiences, memories, and personal struggles can be transformed into spaces of dialogue, solidarity, and change.
