About the exhibition

The exhibition To-Do List by Tadej Janičić at Gallery Novembar develops an artistic practice that operates on a thin boundary between humor, the market, and critique—within a space where the audience simultaneously recognizes, participates, and reflects on its own position.

Starting from a visually appealing and immediately legible language, Janičić constructs works that at first appear accessible and seductive, yet use this accessibility as a precisely engineered mechanism. Humor and irony function as the primary tools of the practice, not as distance, but as a strategy of integrating the viewer into a system in which artist, spectator, and market are already interlinked.

Within this framework, the image is no longer a neutral representation but an active space for producing relations—attention, identification, and value. The works do not step outside the spectacle system; rather, they acknowledge and reproduce it, making its mechanisms visible through subtle shifts and controlled tensions.

A central role is occupied by the figure of the audience and the buyer, who are not external to the work but an integral part of it. Art thus appears as a situation in which understanding, irony, and exchange continuously intertwine, without final resolution or a stable position of the observer.

The exhibition offers no conclusions, but rather precisely structured situations that question the boundaries between critique and participation, distance and belonging, art and the market.
