About the exhibition
The exhibition Youth presents a new series of paintings by Marija Šević, continuing the artist’s long-standing exploration of the relationship between the intimate and the collective, personal experience and shared space.
Drawing on scenes of young people gathered within the natural landscape of Great War Island, Šević creates images that move beyond documentation and become visions of togetherness, belonging, and possibility. Her protagonists are not portrayed as individuals with clearly defined identities, but as figures that embody collective experience and a shared future.
Through a soft palette, fluid painterly gestures, and atmospheres that oscillate between reality and imagination, everyday moments are transformed into universal images of youth. At once tender and melancholic, these scenes reflect on transience, hope, and the potential of collective action.
In a time marked by social, political, and ecological uncertainty, Youth approaches youth not as an age category but as a condition of openness, solidarity, and belief in the possibility of a different world. The exhibition proposes painting as a space for encounter, imagination, and the renewal of a shared horizon.
